first year economics courses to be indoctrinated with classical capitalist economic theory. Ethical questions are reduced to simple axioms: what creates profit is good, prices can only be set by supply and demand, we are all selfish, economics is about distributing scarce resources. Workers are transformed from people into dehumanized, fungible “labour” to be considered as the capitalist would consider silicon, petroleum, Red Dye No. 2, and other “inputs of production.” Rigorous testing weeds out the rebels, the unfit, those who question and criticize, and those who refuse to treat people as things or to be treated as things themselves.
